On Tuesday, January 27th, Mrs. Hamblin, BJSHS Counselor, took a few Juniors to Spirit Aerosystems for a tour and presentation to learn about possible employment and career opportunities for them to consider after high school. Mrs. Hamblin believes that it is important to provide our high school students with opportunities to participate in business tours and employer engagement activities as an important way to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences. These experiences allow students to explore a variety of careers, see workplaces firsthand, and better understand the skills and education needed for future success. Employer engagements help students build confidence, ask meaningful questions, and begin forming connections with local businesses and professionals. Exposure to different industries also helps students make more informed decisions about their post-secondary plans. By engaging with employers early, students gain valuable insight and motivation that can shape their goals and career pathways.
Spirit Aerosystems offers 2 high school programs, which provide hands-on opportunities to learn, explore, and experience real careers in aerospace, engineering, and manufacturing. They have a Summer Internship Program for students 16 and older. Students get paid $15/hr for 20 hours a week for 3 weeks. This would be a great addition to a student's resume. Students who take part in these internships are considered for full-time employment over others who haven't participated.
They also have a Shadowship Program for students 16 and older to apply to shadow and explore areas like: Engineering, Manufacturing, Business/Finance, Information Technology (IT), Skilled Trades (Mechanic, Electrician, etc.), or any other career path (by request).
Bluestem will continue to provide opportunities like this for our students.
