State Fair
On Wednesday, September 13th, the Bluestem High School Band participated in band activities at the Kansas State Fair! The forty-one member group, under the direction of Eric Pretz, was active in two performances and received both ratings and critiques from each of the six judges on a scale of one (being the highest) to five.  In the parade division the band received a composite score of an excellent two rating! In this event, the band marched throughout the parade grounds and played their instruments. In the arena performance division the band received a superior one rating from each judge resulting in an over-all superior one rating! In this event, the band stood in an arena and played two selections from their “British Invasion” field show including popular classic rock hits “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin and “You Really Got Me” by the Kinks. This is the first superior one rating the high school band has received at a music festival for several years!  Congratulations BHS Band for your hard work! It definitely paid off! The band would like to thank Randy Hughes for driving the bus, Band Mom Jennifer Hinson for taking pictures, and Band Mom Kayla Whiteside for helping with supervision throughout the day! We couldn’t have done it without you!
