Jeremy Nelson - 2007-2008 Board of Education President

"Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow- Anon"

Jeremy Nelson started his school board term in July of 2005. He became a board member to become more involved in the community. He will work to increase public relations, develop an awareness of school issues, and to get all of the communities involved in the district. "I'm not really sure why I won the elections, but I am glad to have done so well."

Jeremy attented Butler Community College and Kansas State University. He works as a Cowley County Extension Agent of Agriculture and Natural Resources. You can e-mail him at jmnelson@oznet.ksu.edu

Brett Jurging - 2007 - 2008 Board of Education Vice President.

Brett Jurging joined the Bluestem school board during the December 2006 meeting. He graduated from Bluestem High School in 1991. His goal as a board member is to make the learning exprience as fun as possible and to help provide a safe and successful learning environment.In his spare time, Brett loves to hang out with his family. Phyllis Brewer - Board Member

Phyllis Brewer has been serving on the board since July of 2003. She graduated from BHS and later went on to Wichita Vocational College. Phyllis's goal as a BOE member is "Continuing to provide the very best education to the students of USD 205 and to have positive role models in the class rooms".

Melissa Hatfield - Board Member

Melissa Hatfield has been serving on the board since July of 2005. After graduating from high school, she attended Wichita State. She has a degree in accounting. Melissa's goal as a BOE member is to investigate the implementation of concurrent credit and online grading.

Kenney Sowers - Board MemberKenny Sowers has lived in district since the early 1970's. His goals are to provide a positive learning environment where young people can learn life skills needed to become successful adults. He believes as a parent, teacher, coach, and school leader, we have the opportunity to influence the outcomes of our child's life. It is a tremendous responsibility not to be taken for granted. He truly believes we all must continue to support one another, to be successful as a school. He also believes as parents we are given the responsibility to be involved in all aspects of our children's lives. His wife and him encourage there children to be leaders amongst their peers and to lead by example. He sees the BOE position as a great opportunity to lead by example being more involved with the lives and education of not only his own children, but all the young people of this community by having a positive impact in the leadership of our school.
