Bluestem High Course Descriptions

School Year 2008-2009

by Jennifer Leeker

August 18, 2008

The purpose of having course descriptions is to assist the student in planning their academic schedule for the next year. With input from the counselor, teachers, and parents, students will be able to develop a schedule that will best meet their interests, needs, goals, and abilities.

An intelligent selection of courses and conscientious planning will greatly reduce course conflicts and the need for schedule changes. Special attention should be given to prerequisites for certain courses and requirements for graduation. Certain requirements must be met for any student who plans to enter one of the regent schools in the state of Kansas. Careful consideration of course selection must be made for each year of high school enrollment.

As students build their schedule for next year, they should carefully review the many elective courses available to expand their interests. In addition to the courses on the Bluestem campus, juniors and seniors may enroll in courses offered at Butler Community College. Students interested in the college program, should contact the counselor before finalizing their enrollment. Opportunities also exists with vocationally approved program courses in Business and Computer, Family and Consumer Science, Communication, Carpentry, Small Engines, CAD, Welding, and Cabinet & Furniture Design for students who seek a general or vocational background. Students interested in these vocational programs should consult the teachers in those departments.
