Bluestem Elementary Students Celebrate Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart
Students at Bluestem Elementary School participated in “Jump Rope for Heart” and “Hoops for Heart” as a service project to raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association. The money raised helps the American Heart Association to support research and provide education about the risks of heart disease.
On Valentine’s Day, the students celebrated Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart. The focus of this activity was to show the importance of developing heart-healthy habits and show how being physically active can be fun.
The students and their classroom teachers visited ten health and fitness related stations during the morning activity. Each station was focused on a different subject and learning style for the classes to explore.
Some of the topics at the stations included the heart and circulatory system, making healthful decisions, nutrition and technology, dental health and the heart, music and movement, healthy snacks, brain gym, art and the heart, listening to a story, and individual and group physical activity.
We are proud of the effort of all of our students raising money to support the American Heart Association and Jump Rope 4 Heart. The hard work of the students and generosity of the Bluestem patrons is saving lives.
We would also like to thank Sonya Lovesee, Amy Potter, and all of the teachers and staff at Bluestem that made Jump Rope for Heart a success. Without the cooperation of the entire Bluestem community none of this would have been possible.
