...Board Meeting Notes
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. Board member Damian Korte attended the calendar discussion via telephone.
BHS Dance Team representatives addressed the Board during the public participation forum. They read a statement outlining several reasons they believed the team should remain separate from cheerleading. Board president Sowers informed the girls that the Board was not currently, seriously considering such a merger.
The Board approved the consent agenda that included the minutes from the January 11, 2010 regular meeting, financial reports and claims and the January BMS site council minutes.
The Board reviewed staff reports. Elementary principal Debbie Webster shared the positive news of an elementary and middle school student performing very well at the Butler County spelling bee. Superintendent Rivers reviewed a survey document from the Kansas Association of School Boards with board members. The document sought input on the recruitment of a new executive director for the school board association.
The Board listened to district patrons and staff during a discussion regarding the format of the 2010-11 school year calendar. The Board approved implementation of a 4-day a week school calendar for the 2010-11 school year. Staff will develop a recommendation for the final calendar to be presented to the Board at the March meeting.
The Board discussed ways to survey the community in the spring to provide input for short and long-term goal setting later this year. Additional discussion and staff recommendations will be heard at the March meeting.
The Board entered an executive session to discuss professional negotiations.
The Board entered an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.
The Board accepted the resignation and retirement of David Carson effective at the end of the 2009-10 school year.
The Board extended superintendent Rivers’ contract through June 30, 2012.
