"NOT IN OUR HOUSE"
Bluestem High School staff and students are working to encourage parents to be aware of your child’s activities. Bluestem High School has posted this on the website to enable parents to sign up in sending the message that alcohol use under the age of 21 is unlawful and unacceptable. Listed below is explanation on what “Not In Our House” represents and we urge you to learn more at the website of Kansas Leadership-http://www.kansasfamily.com/getinvolved-ksleadership.cfm. Along with our information we have attached a Parent/Caregiver Pledge form. Any person wanting to pledge that their home will not permit the serving of alcohol, please complete the form and return it to the high school. The information obtained will be used to post on our local website the parent/caregiver’s name only. This will serve as a reference for parents to know who supports the “Not In Our House” theme.
The Kansas Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free is hosting a campaign called "Not In Our House," aimed at educating parents, the public and key leaders about reducing access to alcohol by Kansas youth in our homes and our communities. Kansas Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free tied their campaign to materials that The International Institute for Alcohol Awareness, Scholastic and The Century Council had published in 2006. This presented an even greater partnership to distribute awareness materials regarding social hosting and underage drinking.
You may have heard the term, "social hosting," but were unsure of
it's meaning. Social hosting or unlawfully hosting is generally
defined as providing and/or serving alcohol to a young person who
is under the minimum legal drinking age. It can take place in a
party-like atmosphere or by any adult simply providing alcohol to
young people and their peers for them to drink. It can even extend
to parents and homeowners who are not on the premises and/or did
not provide the alcohol. We urge you as parents to educate yourself
about underage drinking by going to Kansas Family Partnership, Inc
website:http://www.kansasfamily.com/getinvolved-ksleadership.cfm.
