The Board began the evening at 6:00 PM with a tour of Bluestem High School and Bluestem Elementary school.

The Board opened their regular meeting at the district office.

The group Bluestem Care Coalition addressed the Board during the public participation forum.

The Board approved the consent agenda that included 1) minutes from the regular August 10, 2009 meeting and the September 8, 2009 special meeting; 2) financial reports and claims; and 3) the settlement statement for the sale of the building trades home at 700 Stadium in Leon.

The Board received several staff reports.

The Board listened to Mr. Rivers describe a meeting the Butler County superintendents have scheduled to discuss cooperative arrangements beyond special education.  There was a brief discussion.

The Board listened to Mr. Rivers describe “blended learning” and the Virtual School Symposium in Austin, Texas in November.  The Board agreed to send a team to the symposium including a board member, the superintendent, an administrator and a staff member.

The Board entered a series of short executive sessions to discuss non-elected personnel.

The Board took the following personnel actions: 1) accepted the retirement announcements of Jimna Knapp, Annie Wilson and Wanda Thompson; 2) accepted the resignation of Kasie Kiefer as BMS asst. girls basketball coach; 3) approved supplemental contracts for Kyle Madden (BHS Wrestling), Jenny Oliver (BMS Cheerleading); Nicole Taylor (BMS Cheerleading), Jacque Burris (BHS Junior Class sponsor), and Ken Butler (BMS head girls Basketball coach).

Finally the Board corrected an error in the July 2009 Board of Education meeting minutes.
