Pysical Education

Course Description

Physical Education I (1 semester)
An introduction to the high school Physical Education program.  It further develops the skills acquired during the previous years and enhances them further.  New units are also introduced to enhance lifetime physical fitness.  Units range from team to individual sports with a concentration in Strength Training and Conditioning.  Students will be introduced to units corresponding to the seasons.  Students will be tested on skill acquisition and knowledge of different activities.

Health (1 semester)
Designed to continue the growth of the student's knowledge in the area of health and wellness.  Subject matter is focused on the five components of health: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social.  Each component is explored in some detail through the use of a variety of hands-on activities throughout the semester.  Students will gain an understanding of how to evaluate health information and make the best choices for themselves while learning about a wide variety of specific health-related informational resources.

Strength Training and Conditioning
Strength Training and conditioning focus on developing proper techniques of strength training with the different exercises.  Students are required to keep a record of their daily work out activities produced by the instructor.  The class will be split into four weight lifting days and one plyometric and speed training or cardiovascular day as determined by the instructor.  The class is not only designed to improve strength but also to increase speed, agility, and power.  It is designed for students wanting to improve their physical appearance as well as self esteem.  Students will be tested on strength gains made throughout the year, knowledge of the different exercises and major muscles of the body and different and different systems of the body.
Prerequisite: Physical Education I

Lifetime Fitness
This introductory fitness and wellness class is designed to acquaint students with the benefits of physical activity in their lives.  This course will include cardiovascular work, strength, and conditioning, weight training, aerobics, yoga, ect.  This course will include fitness evaluation (self-testing), general principles of health, fitness and nutrition, development of a personal training program, and much more.
