Introduction to Computer Technology (semester course)
This course introduces the student to the computer
systems used at the High School. Students will become proficient in
the following four technology areas of knowledge: Operating Systems
and Hardware, Computer Software, Networking and the Internet, and
Social and Ethical Issues in Computing.
Accounting
The theory and practice of modern accounting, financial
statements, controlling accounts, various input journals, and
complete accounting cycle are covered. The student will apply
skills through their work on a number of practical working
problems.
Prerequisites: Pass Career Exploration and Introduction to
Computer Technology
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is the study of business and the planning of a
business. Students will experience the adventure of becoming an
entrepreneur, starting and managing a business, and the processing
of personal as well as business data. Students will work to develop
a start up business and operate it for the final nine-weeks for the
school year using knowledge gained throughout the previous
months.
Prerequisites: Pass Career Exploration and Introduction to
Computer Technology
Personal Finance
Personal Finance is a course designed to help students develop
sound financial planning habits that they can carry into their
future. Content includes information to encourage students to
become rational, competent decision-makers, productive members of
the workforce, informed and effective consumers, prudent savers and
investors, responsible citizens, and effective participants in the
global economy. They will develop financial skills for personal and
family well-being; balancing work and family; management of
resources; financial services and responsibilities; responsible use
of credit; consumer decisions; and rights and responsibilities of
consumers.
Professional Office
Students taking this course will operate Microsoft Office
application software using Windows. The student will create a
variety of documents that integrate business ideas and topics.
Additional work will include producing business presentations,
creating a business web site, and organizing activities through
calendaring software. The integration of data between applications
is discussed throughout the course.
Prerequisites: Pass Career Exploration and Introduction to
Computer Technology
Work Production Technology (IHT)
Students who apply for this In House Training course will
participate in a real job production environment. Students will be
expected to complete a variety of business tasks provided from both
the community and school with little teacher intervention. In order
to receive credit for the class, the student must complete 180
hours of production work.
Prerequisites: Junior or senior with 50% completion of program
courses.
