Course Descriptions
Speech (1
semester)
This class will involve the study of and use of basic
oral communication skills. Students will present speeches in front
of the class. Research, interviews, and source documentation is
required for most speeches. Students will also create visual aids
such as the use of PowerPoint to enhance their presentations.
Debate (1
semester)
This competitive class REQUIRES a time commitment on
Saturdays for competition. Based on their performance at these
competitions, students have the opportunity to letter in this
activity. In this class, students will develop research,
organizational, logical, and argumentative skills. Students will
learn and practice the formal cross-examination style of debate.
The 2009-2010 national debate topic is Resolved: The
United States federal government should substantially increase
social services for persons living in poverty within the United
States.
Forensics (1 semester)
Forensics involves the study of and competition in speech and drama
activities. It involves selecting, preparing, rehearsing, and
performing speech, drama and interpretation materials for
tournament competition. This class REQUIRES a time of
commitment on Saturdays. It is possible to letter in this
activity.
