Debate Team Fares Well at Regional
On December 18 and 19 the Bluestem Debate team ventured to Fort Scott, KS to compete in the annual 4 speaker Debate regional. The teams of Steven Brown and Kristen Batta ( Affirmative) and Jacob May and Eric Esparza ( Negative) fought hard and by the end of Friday the squad had secured a nice 3rd place location. Going into Saturday the teams faced tougher competition and continued their drive for a place at state. When all was said and done Bluestem placed 3rd only one win and 2 ballots away from clinching the 2nd place spot qualifying the school to go to State Debate, which will be held January 22/23, 2010 in Goddard, for the first time in close to 20 – 30 years. “ The kids were outstanding and listened to direction and were committed as a squad to do the best they could at Regional and I am very pleased and tremendously excite for our squad and for the kids," said Coach Dawson. This weekend the same teams will compete at the CPL Debate Tournament to be held at Independent and again hope to surprise the competition by placing first or second.
