During the Public Participation Forum, Todd Johnson, BHS Skills USA co-sponsor and two students updated the Board on their summer Skills USA activities, including their participation as state level officers.  Jennifer Kramer-Leeker, BHS career and technical programs coordinator, also gave the Board a report on the status of the high schools programs.

The Board approved the consent agenda that included minutes of the May 11, 2009 regular meeting, May 21, 2009 special meeting and the financial reports and claims.

The Board briefly reviewed the written staff reports.  Mr. Rivers gave a brief review of the building trades construction project and plan for the next home.  Mr. Rivers and Mr. David Carson also reported to the Board the excellent participation Mr. Scribner had recruited for the summer conditioning program.

The Board received a report from Koby Kampschroeder, of Custom Energy, regarding a proposed Facility Conservation Improvement Program project to replace the leaking roof and outdated HVAC systems at Bluestem High School.  The district has been allocated 1.5 million dollars in Qualified Zone Academy Bonds (a zero interest loan from the federal government) to help finance the project. 

After studying and discussing the project, the board gave approval for the development of a contract with Custom Energy, through the Facility Conservation Improvement Program, to act as the construction manager for this project.  The Board also adopted a resolution to levy an additional 4 mills of capital outlay tax to begin repaying the Qualified Zone Academy Bonds (zero interest) that will fund the project.

The Board briefly discussed the development of a policy for consideration of future additions, deletions and cooperative efforts in school activities. 

The Board received a copy of the Coaching Handbook for first reading.  It will be resubmitted in July for final approval.

The Board received a report from Mr. Rivers on his development of a job description handbook.  The staff will be included in the development of this new handbook.

The Board approved a minor change to its classified staff policy and practices with employer provided health insurance.  The Board will cease the practice of prorating its contribution for classified staff who do not work the summer months.

The Board scheduled a special meeting at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 22nd to receive bids on the building trades home.  The Board also approved the 2009-2010 regular board meeting schedule.  The July meeting will be on Monday, July 20, 2009 and the remaining 2009-10 Board meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month.

The Board entered an executive session to discuss professional staff negotiations.

The Board entered an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

The board approved the employment of Andrea Scharenberg as BHS Business Teacher.

The Board approved a list of supplemental duty contracts leaving some positions open for further recruiting.
