...Board Meeting Notes

The Bluestem USD 205 Board of Education convened its regular August meeting at the central office in Leon at 7:00 PM, Monday, August 11^th. 

The Board held a hearing for the 2008-2009 budget.  Two community members were in attendance.  Mr. Rivers explained the changes in the budget and answered questions from the audience.  The budget for 2008-2009 will increase about ½ mill.

The Board approved the consent agenda that included:

• Approval of the July 21, 2008 meeting minutes
• Approval of financial reports and claims
• Adoption of a resolution allowing for early payment of claims
• Adoption of the 2008-2009 budget “as published”
• Employment of Buford Pringle as BHS Asst. Football coach

The Board reviewed staff reports.

Mr. Rivers gave a presentation regarding updates to Board policy.  It was the consensus of the Board to move forward with a rewrite of Board policies with an emphasis on condensing and simplifying the individual policies and to coordinate all handbooks with the Board policy document.  The Board plans to take final action on the adoption of new policies regarding Board of Education powers and duties at the September meeting.

The Board moved its meeting to the buildings for tours led by the building principals.  The meeting adjourned in Bluestem High School at 9:27 PM.
