...Board Meeting Notes

The Bluestem USD 205 Board of Education convened its first meeting of the 2008-2009 school year at 7:00 PM on Monday, July 21, 2008.

The Board elected Jeremy Nelson president of the board and Melissa Hatfield, vice president.

The Board approved the consent agenda that included:

• -       minutes of the June 30, 2008 meeting
• -       approval of all financial reports and claims presented
• -       numerous personnel appointments
• -       named the Augusta Gazette and El Dorado Times official newspapers
• -       named the State Bank of Leon the official depository
• -       established petty cash limits
• -       set board meeting dates for 2008-2009            
•          o   2^nd Monday of each month at the Board office
•          o   October meeting in Beaumont and November meeting in Latham
• -       adopted a 1,116 hour school year
• -       adopted a waiver of GAAP (accounting) requirements
• -       established a mileage reimbursement rate of 50.5¢ per mile
• -       authorized the custodian of records to destroy old records

During staff reports the Board briefly discussed the plans being made for an all-sports scrimmage and community picnic on August 28^th and for a staff appreciation picnic in September.

The Board reviewed the publication notice for the annual budget to be published in the official newspapers.

The Board reviewed a tentative calendar for Board meeting business through the 2008-2009 school year.  A complete review of the Board policy manual and strategic planning will be the top priorities for the board.

The Board entered a brief executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

The Board approved the employment of Mitzi Winger as the Bluestem Middle School Secretary.
